Welcome aboard

This is the title of the programme produced by Fundación X La Boca and Carlos Oscar Di Lorenzo, which has been declared of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Culture of Argentina. A virtual 360-degree experience, whereby anyone can take a trip on the Transbordador Nicolás Avellaneda from one coast to another, from La Boca to Isla Maciel and vice versa, using their computer, mobile phone, or VR headset.

The programme also provides the opportunity to learn about the history of the ferry, and the surrounding landscape and the historical and cultural heritage on both sides of the river, as it includes guided tours of emblematic sites.

La Boca-Isla Maciel ferry back in operation

11 September was a historic day. Signalling the return of the Nicolás Avellaneda ferry into operation, transporting workers from La Boca and Isla Maciel. At Fundación X La Boca, we celebrate the opening of the crossing, which neighbours, and organisations from both banks of the Riachuelo worked so hard to recover over many years. The ferry boat is again crossing the river as in 1914.

We include a video of the first trip in this new era.

The new opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 10 am to 7 pm.

The Nicolás de Avellaneda transporter bridge’s Blue Shield

On 18th December 2018 the Nicolás de Avellaneda transporter bridge was presented with the Blue Shield by the National Working Party. This working party is made up of representatives of different ministries (defence, foreign affairs and religion, education, culture and science and technology) and is responsible for meeting international obligations undertaken by Argentina within the framework of the 1954 Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its protocols.

An essential achievement with a view to protecting the site and consequently Argentinean history and culture.

Delegations from Rochefort and Buenos Aires visit the Bizkaia bridge

This month we had the pleasure of welcoming a French delegation of those responsible for the Rochefort transporter bridge and the Nicolás Avellaneda bridge in Buenos Aires, not only to see the Bizkaia Bridge and the way it is managed at first hand, but also to work towards drawing up the programme for the forthcoming 6th congress of transporter bridges.

Two marvellous days where we forged strong links to promote a transnational project that brings us together around Alberto de Palacio’s brilliant invention.
